The Stupid Thing I did…
I’ve done something really stupid.
Lately, I’ve been really getting into my hiking, and have been setting off on my days off in search of my latest adventure.
The fresh air, the Tasmanian wilderness, and the enchanting forests are what I yearn for. I got all that and a little bit more last weekend.
I was on the South-East Coast in Wielangta forest in search of a road that would take me to a track which would take me to the coast. There I would spend the afternoon sitting on top of the cliffs watching the waves come in and enjoying the salty sea air. Unfortunately, none of that was to be.
I couldn’t find this mysterious road that would take me to the track, and in my search I pulled the van over to the side of the road where, how should I say, it became one with the trees.
I had scraped along a large tree branch causing damage down the entire side of the van.
My heart sank into my chest. I’ve done something really stupid, I said to myself.
This picture doesn’t quite do it justice but there are three panels with damage and a lovely $3k+ to get it fixed at the panel beaters. Ouch!
I shared the news with Steph and was hoping she’d yell at me, but she didn’t. I told some friends and they were like, oh yeah these things happen. Not even the panel beater was willing to beat some sense into me.
I realised the only person that’s beating me up about this is me… the regret, the shame.
I wasn’t going to share this story with anyone, and when I couldn’t even bare looking at my hiking gear sitting on the floor thinking that I might just stay inside forever, Willow came along and curled herself up next to my backpack.
Oh Willow, you always have a knack for saving me from the dark recesses of my mind!
We are healthy after all, and it’s just some stupid metal. There will be more stupid things in the future so I’ll try not to dwell on this.
And after all, something really good happened today. I found some photos that I though I had lost.
Before Steph and I visited the UK the daffodils were in full bloom in our garden. I thought it a shame to let them wither whilst we were away with no one to enjoy them. So I picked the whole lot and bunched them up. I took them into work for the staff at the Cat Centre to take home.
Of course, I had to get a photo of Willow sitting next to them first!
