The travelling cats of Wunjunga

We stayed a few nights at Wunjunga on the coast of Queensland just South of the town of Ayr. There’s not much there apart from a few shacks and a tiny little camp ground just big enough for a few campers – little we knew would soon be at maximum cat-pacity. In the evening I heard a ute arrive and a young couple set up camp. Later, there was a commotion on the other side and upon going out to investigate I found another couple with their caravan stuck in the sand, wheels spinning. The couple from the ute joined us and together we offered as much encouragement and help as possible to get them out of the soft sand. IMG_1289 Whilst this was unfolding I chatted to the young couple, Samara and Glen. They had done an awesome job fabricating the rear of their ute into a camper with a bed, storage, and a canvas roof that could be raised up for more space. They asked me if I was travelling with anyone and I proudly said “Yes, my cat Willow” to which they replied “We also travel with our cats!”. And so I got to meet their little meow meow, Batman and Kitty. The next day we hung around camp playing guitar and figuring out the best way to get into a coconut before an evening around the campfire. Just us, and three cats. I wonder just how many cats there are travelling around Australia right this minute?
